Through its commitment to quality, transparency, and ethical publishing, CMUJS aims to contribute significantly to regional, national, and global scientific advancement.
Peer Review Process
The CMU Journal of Science (CMUJS) follows a rigorous double-blind peer-review process to ensure the quality, validity, originality, and integrity of published research. In this system, the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the review process to promote objective, unbiased, and independent evaluation of submitted manuscripts.
Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial screening. The screening process evaluates the manuscript’s compliance with CMUJS submission requirements, relevance to the journal’s aims and scope, originality, ethical compliance, and overall suitability for further evaluation. Manuscripts that do not meet the basic requirements or fall outside the journal’s scope may be returned to authors or declined without external review.
Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment are assigned to qualified reviewers with appropriate expertise in the subject area. Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, clarity of presentation, relevance of findings, appropriateness of analysis, and contribution to existing knowledge. Reviewers are also requested to assess ethical considerations, accuracy of references, and compliance with responsible research practices.
CMUJS generally assigns at least two independent reviewers for each manuscript. In cases where reviewer recommendations differ significantly, the Editor may seek additional evaluation or make a decision based on the available assessments and editorial judgment.
The possible editorial decisions include:
PNR – Publish with No Review: The manuscript is accepted in its current form and requires no further revisions before publication.
PR – Publish with Review: The manuscript is acceptable for publication subject to minor revisions. The revised manuscript will be evaluated by the editorial team and does not require another round of peer review.
RR – Re-review Necessary after Revision: The manuscript requires substantial revisions. After the authors submit the revised version, it will be returned to the reviewer(s) for another round of peer review before a final editorial decision is made.
UN – Unnecessary: The reviewer determines that the manuscript does not require further peer review. The editorial office will decide on the next course of action based on the review and editorial assessment.
NP – Non-Publishable: The manuscript is not suitable for publication in the CMU Journal of Science because it does not meet the journal's standards, scope, or publication requirements.
Authors are expected to respond carefully to reviewer’s comments and provide a detailed explanation of revisions made. Revised manuscripts may be returned to reviewers for further assessment when necessary.
The final decision regarding acceptance or rejection rests with the Editor-in-Chief or designated Associate Editors. Editorial decisions are based on the manuscript’s scientific merit, reviewer evaluations, ethical compliance, and contribution to the journal’s objectives.
CMUJS recognizes the importance of timely and transparent peer review. The journal continuously works to improve its review procedures, maintain reviewer confidentiality, prevent conflicts of interest, and ensure that all manuscripts are evaluated fairly and professionally.
